5 Data-Driven Tips for Boosting Your Biz’s Twitter Content

A couple of weeks ago, Hubspot released some very useful stats to help businesses develop more effective Twitter content. When developing a social media plan, you easily can become too focused on overall strategy and overlook simple findings like these, which are critical to creating effective tactics. After all, without great tactics to support your strategy, you won’t be able to deliver on your end goals.

So without further ado, here are a few of Hubspot’s key findings along with some tips on how you can use them to make the most of your business’s great content on Twitter.

  1. Tweets from businesses that contain images are 34% more likely to get retweeted than tweets from businesses with no image at all.Tip: If your company has a good content marketing strategy, this should be easy. Take a screenshot of a stat from your latest infographic. Having a get-together at the office? Take a photo of that to show your business’s personality. If you’ve released a report lately, you can screenshot a graph of one of your key findings. Images are everywhere, it’s just up to you to find them and share them.

  2. Tweets from businesses with a URL placed in the middle of the tweet are 26% more likely to get retweeted than those with a URL placed at the beginning or end of the tweet.Tip: First of all, who knew!? While it may be tempting to place that link at the end, find a spot for it in the middle of your tweet. No matter where your link is placed, Twitter will still automatically shorten it for you, giving you some extra characters to share your point of view.

  3. Tweets from businesses that include hashtags are 33% more likely to get retweeted than tweets without hashtags. Tip: Tag it up! Search influencers in your company’s space and compile a list of the hashtags they’re using. Use them in relevant tweets to encourage retweets, boosting viewership and in turn, increasing followers.

  4. Tweets from businesses with one hashtag are 69% more likely to get retweets than those with two hashtags.Tip: Now we’re getting into some interesting findings. Don’t spam your tweets with hashtags. You might think two hashtags isn’t all that bad. Evidently, it is! Keep it to one hashtag per tweet to maintain a genuine, spam-free voice on Twitter.

  5. Hashtags with 11 or more characters get 117% more retweets than those within 6 and 10 characters.Tip: While a longer hashtag means fewer characters for the tweet itself, Hubspot’s research shows that a longer hashtag actually is better. This is great news for businesses. Use the opportunity to play around more with the verbiage in your hashtags and get your messaging across. Have some fun with it!
