The deadliest shooting in American history. Writing on anything other than this senseless tragedy would seem so trivial. Since this Buzz Bin is about social, I’ll illustrate social media’s role and value in major events, such as this horrific tragedy in Orlando.
Social media as…a warning and check-in system:
This chilling Facebook status from the club was posted shortly after the shooting began. Orlando Police turned to Twitter to warn the community to stay away, while some club patrons used Twitter as a call for help, one tweeting from a dressing room.
To be expected, real-time videos have emerged on social media capturing the carnage. And Facebook’s recent safety check-in was launched.
Social media as…an information megaphone:
The most powerful: Social media as…a sign of support.
